3/18: Update on First Virtual Conference – Success!

Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday we wrapped up our first virtual conference, SCUP Mid-Atlantic 2020 Regional Conference! I can’t thank everyone enough for their amazing work as we moved the program completely online. I’d like to thank the Mid-Atlantic Council, conference planning committee, SCUP staff, presenters, and sponsors. We realize that many attendees are busy handling situations on their campus or in their office so for those who were registered, the sessions were recorded and will be available within two weeks. We encourage everyone to continue to reach out to each other. We have set up a SCUP slack community channel to help bring your questions and conversations to the community. Please join the conversations as we continue to help each other through these challenging times.

3/11: Updates on the Pacific Regional Conference & North Central Symposium at Washington University in St. Louis

Dear Colleague,

It’s amazing what happens when communities and humans band together for the greater good.

We keep hearing so many of you doing incredible work to address institutional changes, shifting of learning modalities, and more, all while ensuring the most important thing – the success of students. From dealing with the health and educational elements to the critical point of student housing and food security issues, we applaud you. Crisis is a time when planning truly comes together.

Since our last update we have confirmed that we cannot hold our Pacific Regional Conference on the SDSU campus. The Pacific Regional Council is working alongside our staff to formulate a plan for what’s next, so stay tuned.

We’ve also had to cancel our North Central Symposium scheduled for 4/30 at Washington University at St. Louis. We’ll let you know if this is rescheduled for a later date.

Stay healthy and keep doing the good work you are doing.

3/10: A Message to Our Members About the SCUP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference

Dear Colleagues:

We have been closely monitoring and evaluating the COVID-19 situation to ensure we are first and foremost ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of our community. We have begun to hear that many of you are being called upon at your campuses to help manage preparations and precautions implemented by banning non-essential travel. As a result we have made the difficult but important decision to cancel our face-to-face conference in New Brunswick and instead bring it to you!

The GOOD NEWS: The SCUP Mid-Atlantic Regional Virtual Conference

We’re excited to host the SCUP Mid-Atlantic Regional Virtual Conference as a live, online event. We are reaching out to all scheduled presenters to bring their presentations online.

However, the SCUP Planning Institute: Foundations that was scheduled to be held in New Brunswick has been canceled. I encourage you to visit the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference site for updates and for answers to your FAQs.

Please know our team is diligently monitoring the situation around the country and will update you soon with any new developments. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this very fluid and ever evolving situation.

Stay healthy! We look forward to seeing you online at the Virtual Conference!

3/4: A Message to Our Members

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to share that attendance continues to grow for the multitude of events we have scheduled over the next several months. And we understand the questions you may have about the Coronavirus. Please know that we take the safety of our community and staff very seriously and we are planning accordingly.

We are monitoring and following the guidance of the CDC, sharing with other associations, and working with our event venues to ensure facilities are increasing sanitation schedules.

We encourage you to review these public resources from the CDC to educate yourself on how to keep you and your community safe.

At an event already? Here are some suggestions to remain healthy:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often. Washing your hands for 20 seconds and using alcohol based hand sanitizer.
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Consider eliminating handshakes, kisses, hugs, or business card exchanges in your greetings.
  • No sink nearby? SCUP staff will have hand sanitizers on hand.
  • Be considerate of fellow attendees and exercise good judgement.
  • And most of all, if you are feverish or coughing, please stay in your room.

At this time, the CDC has not indicated that organizations in the US should consider postponement or cancelation of events. Should we receive information from the CDC that would prompt us to make adjustments to our events we will share that with you immediately. In the meantime, our events will continue as planned so our community can grow and learn together.

Should you have any questions regarding your registration, please email and our team will be happy to assist.

Stay healthy! We look forward to seeing you!
